One day course
Depression can occur during pregnancy and after childbirth which is known as the perinatal period. One in ten women may have symptoms ranging from feeling low and anxious to severe depression and negative thoughts about the baby. Women with long term mental health problems may benefit from early assessment and co-ordinated care planning in the perinatal period to promote positive mental health.
This course will give an overview of pre and post-natal depression, assessment and identification, treatment and referral pathways and community resources. It is aimed at anyone interested in gaining an awareness in maternal mental health ie multidisciplinary teams, primary and secondary mental health care, social workers, voluntary workers, health visitors, midwives and Surestart workers.

This information packed one day course will help those who work with new migrants to better understand the diversity of this group.
This course will help participants to gain an understanding of the complexity of the current systems and how they might affect individual migrants trying to access a range of opportunities, support and services.
The course will look at all new migrants including:
- European citizens including those from the newly acceded countries (Eastern Europe);
- international students;
- refugees;
- sponsored migrants;
- work permit holders;
- visitors
