HIV and Pregnancy Hospital Pack 2006

This hospital pack has been designed to provide staff with:

  • Consistent information and guidance for HIV testing in pregnancy
  • Management for women who are found to be HIV positive
  • Information on subsequent follow up care for their babies
  • Information on how to get support and access resources

The aim of the DOH (1999) was to increase the voluntary uptake of the HIV test to 80% in an endeavour to reduce the vertical transmission rate with the use of anti-retroviral treatments in pregnancy. Offering the test to everyone normalises HIV testing and raises awareness amongst the general population about this major public health issue.
