Promoting the Physical Health of People with Mental Health Problems

People with mental health problems often have poor physical health. This service is developing a programme of work, in alliance with a number of other services, to address this problem.

The Manchester Supporting Health Programme
Manchester Supporting Health Programme is a new partnership between Manchester Public Health Development Service and Manchester Mental Health and Social Care Trust to improve the physical health of people with severe mental health problems. It is one of Manchester’s Choosing Health initiatives. This is a report on progress in developing the Programme in the first four months.

A training programme to develop the skills of frontline staff

Does your organisation engage with people who experience poor mental health?

Could your staff have more success in their role through learning how best to help their clients manage their mental health?

If so, consider IMHEP training for your staff.

IMHEP is a two day training course to develop ‘psychological awareness’ for those working with vulnerable individuals. The course develops practical skills in identifying and responding to distress effectively, using a structured model of care.

The programme was piloted in 2008 in Manchester and Stockport. The evaluation report for the pilot programme is attached here. It is expected that a programme for 2009 will be arranged and advertised here.
