Are you considering losing weight, eating healthier, stopping smoking, becoming more active or just looking for practical support?
Imagine how much easier it would be to stick to a new life regime if you had someone to encourage you at every step...
Well that’s exactly what a specially trained group of Health Trainers are doing in your local area. They are not super-fit men and women clad from head to toe in lycra – instead they are people who understand how hard it can be to change the habits of a lifetime and they are there to help you make that first step to a different life.
Health Trainers offer you the opportunity to work with them for a number of weeks or months. They will help you to set manageable health goals of your choice and support you to achieve them. This could include going shpp9ing with you to investigate food labels or encouraging you to be more active by walking, swimming or perhaps going to a gym, maybe even going with you on your chosen activity once or twice to help you settle in. You may wish to reduce your alcohol intake, stop smoking or socialise outside the home more and your Health Trainer could also help you achieve this.
Alternatively if it is just health information you want or some guidance on a range of health and community services available to you your health trainer can help with this too.
If you are interested in making a lifestyle change, the Health Trainers are here to help you make that happen.
If you would like more information about the Health Trainer service, or would like to make an appointment with your local Health Trainer then please call 0161 861 2548.
This is a free, confidential NHS funded service. |

| Staff and coaches from the Manchester United Foundation have been given a helping hand in keeping warm this winter, all in aid of Movember.
The men were joined at Carrington by Javier ‘Chicharito’ Hernandez to show off their ‘Mexican’ style moustaches which they had grown for the month long campaign.
Movember is a worldwide phenomenon and challenges men to change their appearance and the face of men’s health by growing a moustache. The rules are simple, start Movember 1st clean shaven and then grow a moustache for the entire month. The moustache becomes the ribbon for men’s health, the means by which awareness and funds are raised for cancers that affect men. Much like the commitment to run or walk for charity, the men of Movember commit to growing a moustache for 30 days. |
 |
| Steve Hoy, who runs the Manchester United Foundation’s Men’s Health projects, explains why he chose to back the campaign.
“Anything that highlights men's health is a positive thing. We need to get the message across that lifestyle has a massive impact on men's health. It's important that they have the knowledge to make their own informed choices.”
Asked about growing a ‘mo’, he said, “I’ve never had a moustache before and although some said it suited me, I found it rather itchy so don't think I'll will be growing another one anytime soon!”
Chief Executive of the Foundation, John Shiels, is also supporting the campaign by growing a moustache. “Growing a moustache for the month of November really brings an opportunity to highlight Men's Health. Wherever you parade, it becomes a talking point so awareness will be raised.”
